What Background Checks Uncover

Carrying out a background check is the most reliable of ensuring a sound hiring decision as the reputation of an organization has always been a great concern to employers.

Several of us have accepted to have a background check performed on us during an interview without knowing what the employers uncover during a screening process without knowing what information employers uncover. Similarly, many employers go into background checks without fully understanding what they seek.

In this article, we will be discussing what employers will find when performing a background check:

Criminal History:

It is often called a 'rap-sheet' and most times contain offences in the country, state and federal level. Usually, it includes a record of - past arrests, warrants, Acquitted charges, dismissed charges fraud, felonies, etc. This type of file can put both the employee and the employer into trouble as many criminal checks are not properly checked. Therefore, grave offences might be missed, or the wrong person might be matched with the false offences.

Inconsistencies In Educational/Employment History:

This second piece of information shows any inaccuracies or differences in the applicant's educational history. It reveals the year of certification, amount previously earned or employment dates. This is where you find out applicants that are likely to be dishonest, especially if there is an intentional omission. An employer can verify this by just making a single call to the applicant's previous employer.

Credit History:

Gone are the days when employers would look into the credit history of their applicants to assess character and responsibility. This is fast changing. However, this is still functional when an applicant is gunning for a position in money management; the credit history will determine if such can be trusted with that responsibility.

Driving Records:

This record can decide if the applicant will be a liability as a driver in your company. The driving record shows: The status of a drivers license, traffic accidents, driving record points, traffic law violations, convictions and fines, whether a driver's license is still valid, cancelled or has been suspended.

Finally, most employers usually feel comfortable with themselves after conducting an interview, but a background check is even more important as part of a hiring process. They give the employers assurance that prospective applicants can be trustworthy and would be a great asset to the development of the company.
